One of the best parts of this group forum is that the participants can interact with each other! Why don't you say "Hi", and Introduce yourself to the group!
I'll start.... In case you don't know 🙂 I'm Cinnamon, co-founder and lead designer at Liberty Jane Clothing, co-founder of Pixie Faire, co-founder of Sew Powerful, and author of Idiots Guides: Sewing.... "ya, ya, ya... you know that, right" Here's some other stuff you might not know: I'm a mom, to three beautiful children - Jordan 24, Makena, 23, and Liberty 20. A wife to Jason - we just celebrated 27 years! I love coffee, seriously, gotta have it every morning or else! My favorite Starbucks drink is a Cinnamon Dulce Latte - silly, but true! I currently live in the Seattle area, but grew up in California. I love the beach and warm sunny days! I learned to sew when I was very young, and I'm plagued with the thinking " I can just make that myself" which can be both a blessing and a curse… I love the doll clothes niche and will continue to design, sew, and produce new outfits and patterns! My true passion is to empower others with skills and knowledge to live the life they dream of. I feel very blessed that God has given me skills and abilities that I can use to bless not only my family but also the women & children in Lusaka, Zambia through our sewing focused charity Sew Powerful!
I’m super excited to be on this sewing journey with each of you and watch you expand your skill sets and grow into amazing seamstresses! Now it's your turn.... what makes you - you? What are you here to learn? What are your goals for this course?
Hi, my name is Pat Brewer and I live in Hampshire, UK. My grandmother was a seamstress, and my mum used to make my clothes when I was young. I remember a pink crimplene dress with matching jacket with white daisy trim for a wedding we were going to. That stuck with me into my teens when I wanted new original outfits to go out in at the weekend. It was a visit to the material man in the market on Tuesday and by Friday/Saturday there was my outfit. They were made on a straight stitch only 1954 Singer machine which was my mums 21st Birthday present. It is still going strong and my own daughter learnt to sew on it. From there and a new sewing machine my daughter thought it was great as she could have four pairs of baggy trousers if I made them than if she bought one pair in a shop. She asked me to make her Prom dress as she wanted something nobody else had, I was flattered that she trusted me enough to do this for her.
Now wind the clock forwards a few years!!! and early retirement, I make 18" dolls clothes to sell and am a Liberty Jane Partner. I have a stall at a variety of shows/craft/school fairs, girls and boys of all ages come to find me to dress their dolls. I also have an eBay shop that I sell my crafts through. A few years ago I bought myself an embroidery machine and have added a new dimension to my crafts.
I have a confession to make, I have bought more dolls to be my models recently!!!! I was lacking a boy doll. I have more dolls now than I had when I was growing up.
I have been a member of Sewing with Cinnamon since the beginning and even now still learning new skills. Thank you Cinnamon and friends for all the great classes and inspiration to try something new with the step by step patterns.
